Taking up teacher training courses

© Universität Leipzig

Teacher training has two parts: higher education and teaching practice.

In Saxony, teacher training courses for specific forms of school are offered by the Leipzig University, the Technische Universität Dresden, the Technische Universität Chemnitz  (only for primary schools), the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig and the University of Music “Carl Maria von Weber" Dresden. All these courses are completed with the first state examination. You can apply if you have the Abitur or meet a comparable higher education entrance requirement. There are also aptitude tests for some subjects. All information on this topic can be found under: www.lehrer-werden-in-sachsen.de .

Study tip: choose at least one subject that has a high proportion of hours, and choosing different subject groups is better than studying related subjects. Currently there are very good recruitment options for teachers in secondary schools (secondary level 1), primary schools and special schools. Teachers for mathematical and science subjects and foreign languages are required in all forms of secondary schools.
