Recognising excellent teaching: the Sächsischer Lehrpreis (Saxon Teaching Award)

With the Sächsischer Lehrpreis, the Saxon State Ministry of Science and Art recognises the achievements of teachers at Saxon universities and the Berufsakademie Sachsen.

The prize, which is awarded every two years, honours teachers or working groups, who campaign for the high quality of teaching.

In each of the following categories:

  • Universities
  • Universities of fine arts
  • Universities of applied sciences
  • Berufsakademie

the prize money is 10,000 euros.

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2020

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2020 of 10,000 euros for the category Universities was awarded to: Prof. Dr. Jutta Stumpf-Wollersheim, TU Bergakademie Freiberg

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2020 of 10,000 euros for the category Technical Colleges – Universities of Applied Sciences was awarded to: Prof. Dr. Marc Ritter, Hochschule Mittweida

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2020 of 10,000 euros for the category Universities of Fine Arts was awarded to: Julia Bartha, Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2020 of 10,000 euros for the category Berufsakademie was awarded to: Prof. Dr. Tenshi Hara, Staatliche Studienakademie Dresden

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2018

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2018 of 10,000 euros for the category Universities was awarded to: Prof. Dr. Gero Frisch, TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2018 of 10,000 euros for the category Technical Colleges – Universities of Applied Sciences was awarded to: Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Kretzschmar, University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz.

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2018 of 10,000 euros for the category Universities of Fine Arts was awarded to: Prof. Thomas Fellow, University of Music “Carl Maria von Weber” Dresden.

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2018 of 10,000 euros for the category Berufsakademie was awarded to: Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Linde, Prof. Dr. Frank Schweitzer and Dr. Dirk Siebrecht, Dresden University of Cooperative Education.

The winners were recognised for the consistent didactic and curricular implementation of a project-oriented and interdisciplinary model factory as a virtual learning environment with real laboratories. It is based on authentic business processes with the integration of innovative IT solutions and is supervised jointly by three teachers, with each of them supervising it subject-specifically in the format of independent group work. The jury particularly recognises that the teachers from three different specialist fields and disciplines are working towards common goals and tasks for the development of professional and interdisciplinary competences of students and instead of using traditional teaching formats have developed and implemented an innovative, professionally oriented learning environment with virtual elements in a learner-centred and project-oriented manner.

Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2016

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2016 of 10,000 euros for the category Universities was awarded to:
Dr. Vivien Sommer and Andreas Bischof, Faculty of Humanities, TU Chemnitz for the teaching-learning project “Medien und Asyl. Qualitative Evaluation und Konzeption von Medienangeboten für Asylbewerber” (Media and Asylum. Qualitative Evaluation and Conception of Media Offers for Asylum Seekers).

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2016 of 10,000 euros for the category Technical Colleges – Universities of Applied Sciences was awarded to:
Prof. Wolfgang Golubski, Oliver Arnold, Prof. Frank Grimm from the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ), Faculty of Physical Engineering/Computer Sciences, Professional Group of Computer Science for developing an integrated teaching-learning environment for computer science students of the first and second semesters.

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2016 of 10,000 euros for the category Universities of Fine Arts was awarded to:
Prof. Dr. Martina Sichardt, Institute for Musicology, University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig for her interdisciplinary and interactive teaching methods, which are particularly evident in the Master’s study programme in Musicology that she facilitates and helps design.

The Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2016 of 10,000 euros for the category Berufsakademie was awarded to:
Prof. Dr. Kerry-U. Brauer, Prof. Dr. Bettina Lange, Prof. Dr. Katja Glaser, Prof. Dr. Claudia Siegert and Dr. Christian Thöne from the Leipzig University of Cooperative Education for the joint development and implementation of the interdisciplinary dual study programme “Asset Management” at the Leipzig University of Cooperative Education.

 

Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2014

On 13th June 2014, the Saxon State Ministry of Science and Art awarded the Sächsischer Lehrpreis for the first time.

Prize winners of the Sächsischer Lehrpreis 2014 were:

Category Universities:
Dr.-Ing. Andreas Franze, Faculty of Civil Engineering, TU Dresden.

Category Universities of Fine Arts:
Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Jörn Peter Hiekel, University of Music “Carl Maria von Weber” Dresden, Head of the Institut für Neue Musik as well as KlangNetz Dresden.

Category Universities of Applied Sciences - Technical Colleges:
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dirk Labudde, University of Applied Sciences Mittweida, Dean of Studies, Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics Master and General and Digital Forensics.

 

 

Category Berufsakademie Sachsen:
Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Frauke Deckow, Berufsakademie Sachsen – Glauchau University of Cooperative Education, Faculty of Economics, head of the study programme of “Medium-Sized Businesses”.

The jury honoured Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Frauke Deckow for her innovative and sustainable achievements in student-centred study organisation and the consistent further development of classic teaching formats. She is a model of high-quality teaching at the Berufsakademie. With the introduction of special study schedules, families and students with health problems can also successfully complete their studies at a university of cooperative education.
